Environment

by Dridhakarin

To be a Buddhist is to care about what is important. At Windhorse:evolution we care about the way our business impacts on the environment & we actively explore how to reduce any negative impact we might have.

We aim to be a low carbon business and community. At our Warehouse, we have taken advice from the Carbon Trust and plan to replace our warehouse lighting, creating a saving of 21 tonnes of Co2 per year. We Monitor our use of heating to reduce waste. We’ve chosen Ecotricity as our electricity supplier, a company who use renewable energy sources and who invest their profits in more renewable sources. Improving our recycling has reduced our weekly landfill waste collection from ten bins to four! We have a minibus which brings staff to work, and we have three cars which many of our staff share, as an alternative to having their own cars. We also encourage cycling to work with various incentives.

In our shops we have improved lighting to reduce electricity use and have reduced packaging waste.

Living with others and sharing resources helps to dramatically reduce our impact on the environment

We own ten houses in Cambridge, which are home to our Buddhist Communities. Over the last few years we have worked to improve the energy efficiency of these houses. They now have better insulation, draft proofing and recently installed triple glazing. At one house we have installed Solar Panels to generate electricity – some of which will be fed back into the national grid. Another house has Solar Heated Water. We encourage communities to be energy efficient, providing energy efficient appliances and advice. And of course, living with others and sharing resources helps to dramatically reduce our impact on the environment.
